This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 642224
Activities related to the FREEWAT project will take place next week at the 42nd International Association of Hydrogeologists Congress in Rome 13th -18th September.
On Sunday 13th Iacopo Borsi, Laura Foglia, Mary Hill and Rudy Rossetto will introduce the open source and public domain FREEWAT platform so far developed to a class of 36 students of the IAH Early Career Hydrogeologists Network. The aim of the pre-Congress course “FREEWAT: open source groundwater modelling integrated in GIS environment” is to introduce participants to groundwater modelling using the FREEWAT modelling environment integrated in the well-known QGIS software. A brief introduction to the FREEWAT platform will be followed by short exercises performed using the FREEWAT environment. Exercise objective will be that of calculating the water budget, evaluating impact of groundwater abstraction at well fields, evaluate and calibrate a groundwater model and perform solute transport simulations. http://www.iah2015.org/pre-congress-courses-and-workshops/
On Monday 14th morning the FREEWAT Steering Group will be held. In the afternoon at 17.30, Violeta Velasco-Mansilla will give a presentation on GIS-based analysis tools for facilitating the development of hydrogeological models in the session S8.7 - Hydrogeological mapping for sustainable management, protection, evaluation and valorization of groundwater resources.
On Thursday 17th the FREEWAT project will be presented at the Workshop WATER PROJECTS IN HORIZON 2020. During the workshop, the “water” projects granted by the European Commission during 2014 under the European Horizon 2020 Research Programme will be illustrated, by their coordinators and partners. Knowing more about these projects represents an opportunity for the IAH community to create synergy inside EU, but also with other international and global projects related to the groundwater topic. Future and further possibilities for upcoming H2020 calls would be preliminary discussed. http://www.iah2015.org/workshops/#WS6
On Friday 18th at 11.45, Rudy Rossetto (Institute of Life Sciences, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna), Pisa will give a talk on the FREEWAT platform development and technical capabilities in the session: S8.9 - Advances in public domain groundwater flow and transport modelling.
